Travel to Hanoi, Bangkok, Penang, Taipei, Hong Kong or Shanghai?

April 6, 2010 - Posted in hanoi vacation

I am going on a vacation in around September this year and I would like to know which is the best option. I am definitely flying to Singapore (From Melbourne) and after a few days on to either Hanoi, Bangkok, Penang, Taipei, Hong Kong or Shanghai. Which would be best for a teenage boy? Also which airline is best flying to each destination? Thanks =)

Go Hong Kong. Its wonderful! Hong Kong Disneyland, Hong Kong Ocean Park, its shopping, places are wonderful. I went there like 10 to 15 times. I want to go again. My god. When i go in that country its like I am in a dreamland. Bangkok is crowded, You can’t even walk for the traffic. Too bad. Hong Kong is good.

  2. I lived in Penang for awhile and I think the best place to go is Penang. Malaysia airlines and Singapore airlines.

  5. For a teenage boy, I’d recommend that you go to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taipei, or Shanghai – you’ll enjoy most there:

In Bangkok, they have a lot of shopping malls, nice temples, and beaches nearby in Pattaya. If you don’t really like shopping, then better skip Bangkok. Same goes for Taipei – which is simply put, a computer lover’s mecca.

In Hong Kong, there are lots of attractions – both natural (such as hiking) and manmade (shopping, Ocean park, Disneyland) – this is one city I can definitely recommend to you without any hesitation. English is widely spoken, and there are a lot of tourist here, too. The same goes for Shanghai.

Hanoi is sort of a backwater place, as is Penang, and you wouldn’t really be able to appreciate these two places – it’s more of a backpacker’s trail stop than a destination.

    ITINERARY:
    First Phase (Singapore-Bangkok-Hong Kong)
If you want, after flying to Singapore, you can take the railway through Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Penang) to reach Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket), and fly through Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong.

    Second Phase (Hong Kong-Shanghai)
If you are a bit adventurous, you can proceed by rail to Shanghai savoring the Chinese countryside.

    Third Phase (Shanghai-Sydney)
    1. From Shanghai, go back to Hong Kong where you can ride an airplane to Taipei – then grab an Eva Air plane to Manila in the Philippines where you can proceed to Brisbane or Sydney through Qantas. OR
    2. From Shanghai, go straight to Manila, Philippines through Philippine Airlines instead of Taipei, then proceed to Sydney through Qantas. OR
    3. From Shanghai, fly to Singapore through Singapore Airlines, and then go back to Melbourne through Qantas.

*Instead of Taipei, you can include Manila (Philippine Islands) in your destination. Manila is an English-speaking city, full of Asia’s most vibrant nightlife and shopping scene. Manila is considered as the "Latin City of the East and the Pearl of the Orient".
