Can FBI agent go to Vietnam for vacation?

Can he/she carry badge and gun?

Believe it or not and as off the wall this question may sound, I asked a similar question to a friend of mine who is an F.B.I. agent.

Although their jurisdiction is only within the United States, F.B.I. agents could receive an assignment that require international investigation and international travel. There’s also nothing that can stop a private citizen who happens to be an F.B.I. agent from vacationing anywhere in the world so long as they can obtain a visa or other means to legally enter another country. Their current or past assignments could be good reason to avoid certain countries though.

For example: If the F.B.I. agent was assigned to investigate a money laundering operation with ties to Vietnam, the agency may advise the agent to avoid traveling to Vietnam unless it’s agency business. Keep in mind that the F.B.I. deals with professional criminals who could seek out and kill an agent if found out that said agent is investigating them.

Hypothetically speaking, it would not be very smart to vacation in Vietnam if you’re an F.B.I. agent meddling in the business of very powerful Vietnamese drug lord who will not hesitate to hire hit men to kill you the moment you step on their turf.

  2. No, unless the agent is upon active duty with in the other Country. In the United States yes, as FBI agents have full authority in all US jurisdictions and territories. All federal agents have essentially the same authority in regards to weapon possession and arrest powers with in US possessions only.

  3. Yes- you can go to Vietnam but you must notify /get permission from the FBI first!!!

No, your badge means nothing outside of the USA ( Unless your credentials are accepted be the host government…an that only happens if you’re working with local law enforcement on an investigation). You cannot carry your gun..unless you want to see what the inside of a Vietnamese prison looks like.
