How is it possible a primitive country like North Vietnam beat the United States in a war?
May 22, 2009 - Posted in Vietnam Vacation
Served from 1969 to 1975. Was told by my Government "We will never see the day the USA will lose the war". Then was told "We will endure, We will not leave Vietnam until victory, Freedom will ring in Vietnam, The enemy is running, We kill more of them than they kill of us". Then the USA lost on 30th April 1975. The USA military ran like scared rabbits.
You know what happened, Nixon was pushed to pull the vast majority of our troops out in 73 and the Democrat congress cut the funding to South Vietnam forces in 75. You also know we never lost a major battle in Nam. But that we lost the war on the streets of the USA and in our own congress. Sounds almost like what this Democrat congress wants to do again in Iraq. I guess Democrats don't learn from history.
Where should my wife go for vacation in this area?

Countries that we think are primitive are not really primitive at all. They just live in a different way than we do (USA).

Shut up and respect the Vietnam Veterans. It was a mistake to be there, but our soldiers did their best and should be respected.

Because they were being massively helped by advanced communist countries like China, Russia, Cuba, and even North Korea. I was reading on wikipedia.org that North Korea sent squadron of soviet Migs to North Vietnam, and was told by Kim II Song to "fight in Vietnamese skies as if they were fighting in N Korea's skies.?

It was not the military that lost that one…it was all the political crap from Washington, and the protesters supporting them!

The USA has never lost an OPEN WAR(country vs county) What you are talking about is helpping a country to war another.
Which is a completly diferent story.
In an open war, the USA can vanish from earth any country that stands against it.
Irak used to be the 4th most powerfull country on earth, and it took the USA less than a month to defeat it!! And the USA didn't even use any atomic power at the time.

I see that you are not a big advocate for the US Military, but that is cool you have your own leftist view's. The US military did not lose the WAR in Vietnam it was those arrogant, fat stupid Politician's that fought the war from DESK in Washington who lost the WAR for America, the same LOW Life's that started the War in Iraq but in Vietnam they made sure that there father's got them into college or some cushy job in the military somewhere and they did not have to serve a tour in Vietnam.. Before you start talking negative about US military personnel, look at the over 57,000 Americana's that died protecting YOUR RIGHT to write anything you want On-Line!

You have to understand that win and lose do not mean the same thing to the people that run these wars as you think they mean. You're not on the same page.

The United States lost to Vietnam the same way that England lost to the United States in the American Revolution, tired of fighting and the cost outweighed the benefit.
After the Battle of Ia Drang, the North Vietnamese knew they could not defeat the United States in a conventional war so they adopted guerrilla tactics. It was the guerrilla tactics that wore the United States down, increased the casualties of the United States and it is casualties that is the Center of Gravity of the United State. Western nations with conventional forces have extreme difficulty in fighting irregular war. General Giap understood this better than most, because he viewed his success in nothing more than American bodies rather than military objectives. Vietnam was a primitive country but their military equipment was good because of aid from the Chinese.

The Government never wanted to win-but sustain the war. The same is true for Iraq and Afghanistan. There is a lot of money to be made of War for contractors and the Federal Reserve (who grants the lopsided loans for the war)-and the exchange rate is American Blood.

The press lost it for us. You may ask the former Generals of the Viet Namese people. I have and they told me that they had LOST the war during the Tet Offensive. They didn't get orders to continue until they read the American Newspapers two days later. Up until then they had orders to withdraw.
