What should I bring on vacation to Vietnam?
March 30, 2010 - Posted in Vietnam Vacation
I have been told that some things are hard to acquire there and should be brought with. I have medicine, sunscreen, and bug spray packed, is there anything else that I should bring, or does anyone have any "practical" advice as this is my first trip abroad???
Trecking sandals, cotton or microfibres clothes, air is very wet and very hot.
But it depends on, what you are used to at home. Mosquito-net, when you are not staying in a
Hotel with AC. Trousers with zip of legs and many pockets are practical.

Hi GF, You can buy most everything you need right here in Viet Nam. From your previous question, I know that you are coming to visit a friend. He or she will be able to get you clothes, shoes, mosquito netting medicine, etc.
Where I live, I don’t use bug spray, the mosquitoes don’t really bother us that much. However, I took a trip to Song Be to visit the in-laws and it was brutal. My wife’s family works in the rubber plantation and while working, they are covered head to toe in clothing. I don’t know how they can do it in that heat. So bring the bug spray and sun-block..
The one thing you should definitely bring is a set of ear plugs. The truck horns are DEAFENING! I keep a pair under the seat of my motorbike at all times.
Other than that, bring cash or a debit card, a digital camera and a big old jug of Wild Turkey 101 LOL.
BTW; Make sure your cash is crisp and clean. Go to your bank and ask for new bills. Vietnamese will not take foreign money that is worn or defaced in any way. They won’t even accept larger denominations of their own cash if it is damaged or worn. So don’t accept old 100,000 or 500,000 dong notes as change. Make them give you clean bills.
Feel free to email me through Answers if you have any more questions.
